The gymnastics and sports club 1860 Neunkirchen e. V. , TuS 1860 Neunkirchen for short , is a sports club from the Saarland city of Neunkirchen . It was founded in 1860 and offers aerobics , badminton , fencing , gymnastics , judo , bowling , athletics , Nordic walking , tennis, table tennis , gymnastics , volleyball and walking .
Handball
The TuS 1860 Neunkirchen is known nationwide for its handball department, which was dissolved in 2016.
Men
The men took part in the final round of the German championship in 1964 , 1965 and 1966 and qualified in 1966 as southwest champion for the newly founded handball Bundesliga . After the TuS reached fifth place in the southern season in the first season , at the end of the 1967/68 season it was tied with SpVgg 1887 Möhringen in sixth place. The Möhringer won a playoff game with 18:17, which meant relegation from the Bundesliga for the Neunkirchen team.
Women
The women of TuS 1860 Neunkirchen played in the 2nd handball league from 1991 , from which they relegated at the end of the 1995/96 season . In 2010 the team qualified for the newly founded 3rd league , from which it withdrew after the 2012/13 season due to sporting and financial problems.
