The Lords of Tworkau (also Tvorkovský von Tvorkov , Tworkau von Krawarn ; Czech Páni z Tvorkova , also Tvorkovští z Kravař ) were a branch of the Bohemian noble family Beneschau . Its members held high offices in the duchies of Troppau and Jägerndorf .

history

The progenitor of the Lords of Tworkau was Andreas von Beneschau and Tworkau ( Ondřej z Tvorkova ), who is documented for the years 1248–1264. He came from the Bohemian noble family of the Beneschauer ( Benešovci ). His father was Wok / Vok von Beneschau, which is documented for the years 1218-1250. In addition to Andreas / Ondřej, he had other sons who each founded their own family branches.

Andreas / Ondřej used his title "of Tworkau / z Tvorkova" after the north-east of Opava nearby village Tworkau that was in his possession from the 1258th He received this from the Bohemian King Ottokar II. Přemysl, presumably as a reward for his participation in 1253 in the defense of the Opava region against the incursions of the Hungarian king Béla IV. And his Polish and Galician allies. His son of the same name, Andreas / Ondřej, held the post of judge in the Moravian province of Opava ( judex provincialis ) in 1288 .

During the Hussite Wars , the Lords of Tworkau remained true to the Catholic faith. After Georg / Jiří von Krawarn and Straßnitz, the noble family of the Lords of Krawarn , died out in 1466, the Lords of Tworkau, who were related to them, took over the patronage of the Augustinian monastery in Fulnek . In addition, they filed claims for their possession and succession, which were rejected by the Troppauer district court in 1535. In the more recent literature, the term “von Tworkau and Krawarn” is no longer used.

With Karl / Karel, who died after 1781 without heirs, the family branch of the Lords of Tworkau went out.
