The type II of HADAG is a class of two passenger ships, the Blankenese and Neuenfelde . Both ships operate as port ferries within the Hamburg Transport Association in the Port of Hamburg and on the Elbe . They were named after Hamburg districts.

General data

Both ships were built at the Heinrich-Grube-Werft, from 2001 SSB Spezialschiffbau Oortkaten (dissolved in 2014), on Hamburg-Ochsenwerder . They were named after the Hamburg districts of Blankenese and Neuenfelde . The Blankenese was put into service in 1990, the Neuenfelde in 1991.

They were among the first six newly built one-man ships that are manned by only one skipper and that began service after the low point of port traffic in Hamburg at the end of the 1980s. The newbuilds replaced the type ships built by HADAG in the 1950s and 1960s .

The Blankenese is already the third HADAG ship to bear this name. The first Blankenese was a steamship built in 1895 , which was taken over by HADAG in 1929 and used until it was dismantled in 1953. The second ship was a Type II ferry that sailed from 1955 to 1986 in the port of Hamburg. The Neuenfelde had a predecessor ship with this name. This motor ship , launched in 1927 , was bought by HADAG in 1962 and sold again in 1968.

The Blankenese and Neuenfelde together with the Finkenwerder and Altona formed a series. The ships received different total conversions in the first half of the 2000s, so that two identical pairs were created. The Blankenese was rebuilt in 2004, the Neuenfelde in 2005. The equipment and furnishings of the ferries of the ship type 2000 were adapted.

Technical specifications

The ships are 26.45 meters long, 6.44 meters wide and can carry 210 passengers, 128 of which are seated. The Blankenese has a draft of 1.90 meters, the Neuenfelde of 1.55 meters.

Both ships are equipped with a marine diesel engine with an output of 585 kilowatts. The motor drives a Lips nozzle, which works on the principle of a Kort nozzle, via a gearbox . The Lips nozzles, the use of which led to energy savings of 16.9 percent, were retrofitted in 2000. With the ship propulsion a speed of 11  knots is reached. There is a transverse thruster amidships .

The ships have two passenger compartments on the fore and main deck. The wheelhouse is located amidships , behind it the boarding area with a hydraulically operated ramp each on port and starboard . The passenger compartment on the foredeck is lower than the main deck. It has 32 seats at eight rectangular tables and two toilets. The passenger area on the main deck, which is separated from the level, open central nave by an automatic door in the middle, offers 60 seats at 15 tables. On both sides of the door to the passenger compartment there are stairs to the open deck above. There are six round tables with six seats each on the open deck. The curved main girders at the rear and the rounded passenger compartment are based on the shape of the rear of the Type 2000 ferries.

Before the renovations in 2004 and 2005, the ships had a smaller passenger compartment without stepless access on the main deck, which was followed by a small open deck with a staircase to the upper deck. The ships were initially painted all in white with a green rubbing strip and had no advertising.

The ships were equipped with ticket machines in 1995 and electronic destination displays in 2003 . In 2005 an Elna FIS river information system was upgraded. The new navigation system consists of an Elna River Radar 4007 / 9TFT and an Inland EEDIS Radar Pilot 720. It combines the radar image and the turning indicator and sets its own position, that of other vehicles with direction and speed, as well as standing obstacles DGPS - supported on an electronic Elbe map accurate to the meter. The investment costs for the system were around 35,000 euros per ship.

Ferry service

The Blankenese and Neuenfelde run on almost all harbor ferry lines. Line 73 St. Pauli-Landungsbrücken –Oderhöft is an exception. To safely drive under the Argentina Bridge on Hamburg-Steinwerder , HADAG uses special flat ferries, so-called water taxis , on this line .
