2003 Africa Under-21 Football Championship / qualification
The qualification for the U-21 African Cup of Nations 2003 was held to determine the seven finalists alongside hosts Burkina Faso . The games took place between April 6 and October 20, 2002.

The registered teams determined the seven final round participants in three qualifying rounds in the knockout system with home and return legs. In the event of a tie, the away goal rule decided on progress. If there was also a tie, a penalty shoot- out was carried out without extra time .
Preliminary round
The first legs were played on April 6th and 7th, the second legs on April 20th and 21st, 2002.

Liberia, São Tomé and Príncipe, Kenya, Sierra Leone and Mauritius withdrew their teams. The other teams had no play.

Guinea-Bissau and Malawi withdrew their team. Mauritania did not play for the second leg. There was only one match between Nigeria and Somalia.

Gabon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Egypt, Mali and South Africa qualified for the finals.
