The Schloß Strünkede underground station is a tunnel station in the independent city of Herne in the Ruhr area . It is the northernmost station of the Bochum Stadtbahn and is named after the moated castle Strünkede .

The underground station is the northern terminus of the U35 light rail line. It is located in the Baukau district of Herne near the Strünkede moated castle that gives it its name. An exit leads directly into the castle park. In addition to the moated castle, it opens up the settlement, which is bordered by Bahnhofstrasse and Nordstrasse.

It is located about 920 m north of the neighboring Herne Bahnhof underground station .

The underground station has a central platform.

Planning

It used to be planned to build the light rail line beyond Strünkede Castle further north into neighboring Recklinghausen . A route in the tunnel along Bahnhofstrasse or (in Recklinghauser urban area) Bochumer Strasse would be an option. Since Recklinghausen left the Rhein-Ruhr Stadtbahn company , the plans were abandoned. From today's perspective, Recklinghausen would not be financially in a position to continue building the underground, so Schloss Strünkede will probably remain the northern end of the U35 line in the future.
