Turmstrasse underground station
The underground station Turmstraße was on 28 August 1961 during the Berlin Subway - U9 opened. The station is named Tm in the BVG station directory . During the construction of the station, the possibility of expanding to the crossing station was taken into account in order to create a transfer option between the U9, which runs in north-south direction, and the U5, which runs in the east-west direction, in the event of an extension of the U5 line . For this purpose, a short tunnel stump is located across the platform of the U9 for the U5 line as a preliminary construction work . To make it easier to change to the buses, a central exit was subsequently built there, which comes to the surface on the south side of Turmstrasse.
The train station is 675 meters from the Birkenstraße underground station and 919 meters from the Hansaplatz underground station . He is under the Kleiner Tiergarten park between the Moabites shopping street Tower Street and the street Alt-Moabit in the district center located, with next vehicle , since July 2010, and stone stairs an elevator. The costs for this amounted to 1.8 million euros.
The station is equipped with a central platform 12.6 meters wide and 110 meters long and has wall cladding made of light blue tiles designed by Bruno Grimmek , and it also has the “butterfly ceiling” typical of line G stations.
In the immediate vicinity of the underground station there is the BVG underground school and the control center for monitoring and switching the current in the underground network.
