The Walther-Schreiber-Platz underground station is a station on the Berlin underground line 9 on the border of the Friedenau district in the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district with the Steglitz district in the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district . The station, which was built from 1967 to 1969, is located completely under the Bundesallee that opens into Walther-Schreiber-Platz . The Schloss-Straßen-Center (SSC) and the Forum Steglitz are in the immediate vicinity . The station was opened on January 29, 1971 and until September 1974 formed the southern end point of the then line 9.

History and structure

The station was designed as a V-shaped transfer point between the U-Bahn line 9 and the previously planned line 10 , which should fork at Walther-Schreiber-Platz. The platform of line 10 under Rheinstrasse was not built.

The station was designed by the then building director Rainer G. Rümmler . Rümmler designed a typical Berlin underground station from the 1970s with a nine meter wide and 110 meter long central platform and a row of columns in the middle. The walls are clad with blue Eternit panels and the supports with silver-gray aluminum. The design is thus similar to the Eisenacher Straße and Bayerischer Platz underground stations on the U7 line, which were also designed by Rümmler at the same time . The platform, which was formerly made of asphalt, was tiled with light gray granite until 2009 and provided with a guidance system for the blind . The two access floors are tiled in yellow and green. The distribution level in the south was rebuilt in the course of the new construction of the Schloss-Straßen-Center at the end of 2005 and received direct access to this shopping center . A thorough renovation began in summer 2016.

In December 2019, the redesign of the platform walls, the ceilings and the lighting was completed.

Connection

At the underground station you can change from the U9 line to several bus lines operated by the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe.
