Berliner Strasse underground station
The Berliner Straße U-Bahn station is a station on the U7 and U9 lines of the Berlin U-Bahn .
It is located at the intersection of the eponymous Berliner Straße and Bundesallee in the center of the Wilmersdorf district . The station was opened on January 29, 1971 and is named in the BVG station directory under Beo ( Berliner Strasse above ; U9) or Beu ( Berliner Strasse below ; U7). It has both an escalator and an elevator, making it barrier-free .
The station was designed as a tower station , which means that both lines cross on different levels and the platforms are arranged at right angles to each other. Since the Bundesallee runs in a tunnel at the level of the station, it was not possible to create a simple central platform for the U9 station . Instead, two side platforms (with an exit on the left in the direction of travel as with a central platform) were created, which are connected to one another via the U7 platform on the one hand, and via a direct connecting passage at the northern end, where the tunnel already leads to the surface, on the other.
The station was designed by Rainer G. Rümmler , who used red wall tiles with a white band for the level of today's U9 (comparable to the Zwickauer Damm underground station ). During a comprehensive renovation of the station in 1999, these were replaced by red enamel panels . The back track walls of today's U9 were designed with enamel panels when it opened in 1971 and are still preserved today. This can be seen, among other things, from the station signs with raised plastic letters that were typical of the time. The enamel panels differ from those of recent BVG renovations in that they also cover the joints and each panel has a slight angle in the front.
In the immediate vicinity of the train station there is a connecting tunnel between the two underground lines. This was controlled by the signal box Berliner Straße, which was located at the train station. In 2004 this was taken out of service.
Connection
At the underground station you can change between lines U7 and U9 as well as to bus line 104 of the BVG .
