history

The underground station was put into operation on April 19, 1924 as part of the extension of the north-south railway (today's lines U6 and U7) from Hallescher Tor in the direction of Neukölln as a temporary terminus. The station was originally based on the other stations of the north-south railway. White on white was chosen as the identification color, the walls plastered in white were the basic color of the north-south train stations and were supplemented by a further identification color. Accordingly, the superstructures of the station were also kept in white. The platform length was initially 80 meters.

The north-south line, designated as line C I , ran from Gneisenaustraße to Britz-Süd via Neukölln in one direction until February 28, 1966 and to Tegel via Friedrichstraße in the other direction. One day later, with the commissioning of the route from Mehringdamm to Möckernbrücke, the route was changed, so that the line, now known as Line 7, ran between Britz-Süd and Möckernbrücke. The extension from Britz-Süd to Rudow U-Bahn (underground) station was carried out by 1972 and from Möckernbrücke to Spandau Town Hall by 1984 .

In 1968 the platforms were lengthened to 110 meters to enable the use of six-car trains instead of four-car trains. At the same time, the plastered walls were given up in favor of green tile cladding .
