Altstadt Spandau underground station

The Altstadt Spandau is a station of the Berlin U-Bahn - U7 . It was opened on October 1, 1984 as part of the north-west extension of the U7 to Spandau . It is located under the old town of the same name in the Spandau district, parallel to the Am Juliusturm street .

The station, like many underground stations at that time, was designed very lavishly and splendidly by Rainer G. Rümmler . In March 2017, it was announced that the underground station - along with six others on the northern U7 - would be listed as a historical monument .

It lies at a depth of 14 meters, as the nearby Havel had to be crossed in the east . This is why the caisson construction method was used for the construction of this station . In the direction of the Spandau Town Hall , the shield tunneling method, which is rare and expensive in Berlin , was used in order to preserve the historically valuable building fabric in Spandau's old town.

A barrier-free expansion of the station including an elevator is planned by the end of 2019.

Connection

At the underground station you can change from the U7 line to the X33 bus line operated by the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe .
