Udo Ruggaber
Udo Ruggaber (born February 10, 1967 in Hockenheim ) is a former German wrestler .
Career
Udo Ruggaber started wrestling at KSV Wiesental as a teenager . He devoted himself to the Greco-Roman style and was u. a. trained by Walter Gehring and Günter Hartlieb. In 1983 he was the first German A youth champion (intern. Designation: "Juniors") in the weight class up to 60 kg body weight. In the same year he started at the Junior World Championships in Oak Lawns / USA and came in 8th place in the "Cadets" in the same weight class.
In 1984 he took 2nd place at the German A youth championship, but won this title for the second time in 1985 and left Michael Panneck from Lahr- Kuhbach and Thomas Zander from Aalen , who later became world champions , in the weight class up to 70 kg and European champions, behind.
In 1987 Udo Ruggaber was first German champion in the welterweight division among seniors, where he threw his predecessor Raimund Feser from Baienfurt out of the competition. Because of a car accident, he was not able to take part in the senior European championships, but got fit again in time for the junior world championships (Espoirs) in Vancouver . In Vancouver he started the welterweight division with three wins, but then lost to János Takács from Hungary and Tuomo Karila from Finland (4: 5 technical points) and just missed a medal with 4th place.
In 1988 Udo Ruggaber was again German welterweight champion, but could not qualify for the international championships due to injury. In 1989 he and his club were German vice-team champions. It was also used in 1989 at the World Championships in Martigny , Switzerland . In the welterweight division he won over David Butler from the United States and Erhan Balci from Turkey , then lost to Torbjörn Kornbakk from Sweden , won over Anton Marchl from Austria and against Anton Arghira from Bulgaria . As second in the pool he was able to fight for the bronze medal against Petar Tenew from Bulgaria, but lost this fight on points.
In 1990 Udo Ruggaber won his third German championship title in the senior welterweight division. He then showed good fights at the European Championships in Poznan . He triumphed over Erhan Balci , Paulo Martins and the Bulgarian defending champion Petar Tenew , then lost to Tuomo Karila and Jaroslav Zeman from Czechoslovakia and came in 5th with a non-fighting victory over Anton Arghira .
After winning his fourth German championship title in 1991, he started the same year at the European Championships in Aschaffenburg , but lost his two fights there against Zeljko Traikovic from Yugoslavia and Yvon Riemer from France and thus remained unplaced. At the 1991 World Cup in Rome , he won the welterweight division over Min Yongjiang from China and lost to his feared opponents Tuomo Karila and Jaroslav Zeman . He landed there in 13th place.
In the following years, Udo Ruggaber, plagued by several injuries, never regained his usual form and ended his international wrestling career at the age of 24. But he started for his club, KSV Wiesental, in the German Bundesliga for a few more years.
