The Uggerby Å is a 66-km flow in Vendsyssel at the northern end of Jutland in Denmark .
course
It rises at Sterup south of Hjørring , then runs east around Hjørring outside Rønnebjerg , then through Ilbro , Sønderskov , Sindal , Mosbjerg , Bindslev and Uggerby to its mouth in the Tannisbugt west of Tversted .
The water quality of the river is good and it flows through scenic areas in many places. It is widely used by canoeists and anglers.
Simple campsites have been set up near Sindal, Mosbjerg and Bindslev. In Uggerby there is a canoe rental and in Bindslev the river drives the turbines of the old hydroelectric power station , which has been preserved as a working museum.
natural reserve
Together with Uggerby Plantage , the river lies in a Natura 2000 area (Natura 2000 area No. 5 Uggerby Klitplantage and the mouth of Uggerby Å) in accordance with Directive 92/43 / EEC (Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive) . There are large populations of the blood-red cranesbill as well as important stocks of the blue schiller grass (Koeleria glauca), the great blue sunflower , the sand lizard and the natterjack toad . The sea lamprey lives in the river .
An area of 25 hectares east of the lower reaches of Uggerby Å was designated as a nature reserve ("Naturfredning") in 1964 . It is a scenic recreation area with unique plant growth. In 1963, the Ministry of Culture acquired the land to protect them. Today the Ministry of the Environment is the owner.
Bathing ban
Bathing was prohibited in Uggerby Å and Uggerby Strand up to 300 m east of the river mouth in 2009. The bathing ban was due to a high number of germs in the stream, which came from humans and ruminants. The contamination was believed to have come from the Sindal sewage treatment plant and from cattle along the river.
There is no information about the current status.
