Ullrich Spannuth

Ullrich Spannuth (born January 21, 1964 ) is a German officer, Brigadier General of the Army of the Bundeswehr and since August 22, 2019 commander of the Munster training center .

Military career

Training and first uses

Spannuth joined the German Armed Forces in 1984 and was trained as an officer of the armored force in the 33rd Panzer Battalion in Neustadt am Rübenberge until 1987 . He then completed a degree in pedagogy from 1987 to 1991 at the Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg . After completing his studies, Spannuth was deployed as a platoon leader and S2 officer in the tank training battalion 93 in Munster . From 1993 to 1994 he was employed as a full-time youth officer at Defense District Command 86 in Schwerin . From 1994 to 1997 he was employed as a company commander , again in the tank training battalion 93. From 1997 to 1999 he was employed as a personnel officer in the IV Corps in Potsdam , before Spannuth took part in the National General Staff / Admiral Staff course at the leadership academy from 1997 to 1999 Bundeswehr took part in Hamburg.

Service as a staff officer

His first assignment as a general staff officer led Spannuth from 2003 to 2005, as staff officer J6 Op / J5 Op in the Bundeswehr operations command , again to Potsdam. This was followed from 2009 to 2010 as a lecturer for security policy at the leadership academy of the Bundeswehr. From 2010 to 2012, Spannuth was again in a staff assignment as Assistant Chief of Staff G3 at the 1st German-Dutch Corps in Münster . From 2013 to 2015 he was office manager at the chief of staff SHAPE General Werner Freers in Mons ( Belgium ). From 2015 to 2017 he was again in a ministerial position as Head of the Strategy and Operations Division II 1 Military Policy and Operations Region Asia, Oceania and America at the Federal Ministry of Defense in Berlin.

Service as a general

On March 31, 2017, Spannuth took over command of Panzerlehrbrigade 9 from Brigadier General Gunter Schneider . In this post he was promoted to Brigadier General in August 2017. In 2019, Spannuth was the commander of the land brigade of NATO's rapid reaction force, the so-called VJTF (Very High Readiness Joint Task Force Land). This reaction force consists of around 8,500 soldiers from nine nations and was led by a German general for the first time in 2019. On August 22, 2019, Spannuth took over command of the Munster training center from Brigadier General Olaf Rohde .
