Ulrich Ebert (born May 6, 1948 , † November 22, 2005 ) was a German football player and later coach . In the top division of GDR football , the Oberliga , the goalkeeper played for the BSG Wismut Aue .

Athletic career

BSG Wismut Aue

Ebert came in September 1966 at the age of 18 together with midfielder Eckhard Lange from 1. FC Magdeburg to the GDR upper division Wismut Aue . After a few games in Wismut Aue's 2nd team, he planned to move to FC Vorwärts Berlin at the turn of the year 1967/68 . He failed because of the regulations at the time, which prohibited suspended players from changing, and so Ebert returned to BSG Wismut.

As the successor to Manfred Fuchs , Uli Ebert was the goalkeeper of BSG Wismut Aue between 1970 and 1983, for which he stood between the posts in the major league in 268 games. Only seven players were more often used for the mates in the East German House of Lords.

Until 1985, the 1.78-meter-tall plasterer of the community from the Erzgebirge was still available as a substitute goalkeeper for his successor Jörg Weißflog and then ended his active career. In the 1979/80 season , Ebert was named the best point player of the season by the specialist newspaper fuwo - Die neue Fußballwoche .

Selection bets

Ulrich Ebert was one of the best GDR goalkeepers of the 1970s, but did not appear in the East German national team , as in his strongest phases Jürgen Croy from Zwickau and then Hans-Ulrich Grapenthin from Jena were given preference by coach Georg Buschner .

Another reason was that during this time, with the exception of Croys, no players from company sports associations were allowed to come to selection apprenticeships . Due to this nomination policy, Eberts Auer teammates such as Holger Erler , Konrad Schaller or Jürgen Escher were not invited despite good performances in the major league. When players from BSG teams received selection appointments again in the mid-1980s from the DFV of the GDR, Ulrich Ebert's career was almost over. There are only two appointments to the U-23 team of the GDR in 1971 against Romania and Yugoslavia in his sporting career.

Further career

After completing his active career, Ebert worked as a coach, including at VfB Annaberg , but above all in the youth field, most recently at the DFB base in Falkenstein. He was the player-coach of the traditional team of FC Erzgebirge Aue and the organizer of the classic tournament in the Erzgebirgshalle Lößnitz.

Ebert, who lived in Hundshübel, was married and a father of three. He died in November 2005 of blood cancer.
