Life

Ulrich II came from an originally Styrian family and was confidante of King Rudolf I of Habsburg .

Přemysl , who was sovereign as King of Bohemia at that time present-day Upper and Lower Austria , but should be ousted again after the imperial ban of 1275.

Ulrich received Mitterberg Castle as a princely fief and the Machland district court as early as 1277 .

In August 1278 Ulrich led the royal reserves and rearguard for King Rudolf in the battle on the Marchfeld near Dürnkrut. With Konrad von Summerau and Popo von Reichenstein he succeeded in bringing about the decisive turning point. King Rudolf thanked him later with lands, pledges and the granting of rights and freedoms. In 1279 he became a captain on the Enns . In 1281, the king pledged Ulrich's district court in Machland.

Ulrich also maintained excellent relationships with Albrecht I , the son of King Rudolf, who had been appointed by the king as a feudal man as Duke of Austria . As a confidante and advisor, he carried out delicate diplomatic assignments for Albrecht and was appointed district judge ob der Enns . For his rule in Steyregg he was also granted lower regional jurisdiction and also secular immunity .

Ulrich II was buried in the Gumpendorfer parish church near Vienna.
