Ulrich Mack (theologian)

Ulrich Mack (born April 20, 1951 in Heidenheim an der Brenz ) is a German Protestant theologian , pastor , dean of the Protestant regional church in Württemberg and regional bishop of the Stuttgart Prelature from 2006 to 2016 .

Live and act

Ulrich Mack grew up in a church-active family, and as had Konfirmand the desire to become a priest. One of his role models was the dean of Heidenheim at the time, Walter Tlach . At the Evangelical Seminary in Maulbronn he learned Greek and Latin and then studied Protestant theology in Tübingen , Heidelberg and Hamburg . The first theological service examination took place in 1976. From 1978 he was an assistant at the University of Tübingen. From 1984 he was pastor in Remshalden -Geradstetten and in 1989 moved to Filderstadt -Bernhausen. From 1998 to 2006 he was dean in Freudenstadt . He was then a prelate in Stuttgart until his retirement in 2016.

Between 1996 and 2006, Mack was a member of the Württemberg regional synod , where he co-chaired the theologically conservative discussion group “Lebendige Gemeinde” . During this time he initiated projects such as the “Growing Church” and the “Year of Worship”. He was chairman of the Church, Society and Public Committee and later of the Synod's Theological Committee. From 2010 to 2015 he was a member of the Synod of the Evangelical Church in Germany .

From 1989 to 1998 he was chairman of the Württemberg YMCA state association and between 2006 and 2018 he was also chairman of the Evangelical Press Association for Württemberg. He is a member of the administrative board of the Württemberg Bible Society of the Evangelical Diakonissenanstalt Stuttgart and deputy member of the Constitutional Court of Baden-Württemberg .

Mack headed the editorial team for “Bible for Today”, a Bible reading aid for an ecumenical Bible reading plan, and wrote the “Stuttgart Bible Course” for 18 years.

Private

Ulrich Mack is married to Cornelia Mack . The couple has four children and lives in Filderstadt- Bonlanden near Stuttgart.
