Ulrike Wendeling-Schröder

Ulrike Wendeling-Schröder (born April 5, 1948 in Marburg / Lahn ) is a German legal scholar and university professor .

academic career

After studying law in Marburg and Freiburg im Breisgau , she completed her legal traineeship in Bremen . In addition, she worked as a research assistant at the University of Bremen . After passing the 2nd state examination , she initially worked as an intern in the legal department of the German Trade Union Federation (DGB). A short time later, she became a research assistant at the Economic and Social Science Institute (WSI) of the DGB (now WSI in the Hans Böckler Foundation ). In 1984 she received her doctorate from the law faculty of the University of Bremen with a thesis on employee rights in modern corporate structures. In addition to her work at the WSI, she had several teaching positions at the universities of Duisburg and Frankfurt am Main . In 1992 she completed her habilitation at Faculty 1 of the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main with a thesis on individual rights in employment, in particular on freedom of conscience and freedom of expression. From 1993 she was professor for labor, corporate and civil law at the Law Faculty of Leibniz University Hannover . On her 60th birthday she received a Liber Amicorum ( Jens M. Schubert (Ed.) Social dialogue in crisis ?, Baden - Baden 2009 ). Ulrike Wendeling-Schröder has been retired since 2013 .

Activities and offices

From 1999 to 2016, Wendeling-Schröder was co-editor of the Neue Zeitschrift für Arbeitsrecht (NZA). In parallel to this activity, she was a member of the association committee of the German Labor Court Association from 1999 to 2014 . In 2006 she became a Liaison Lecturer at the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) and held this role until 2012. In the same year she became a member of the FES selection committee. She ended this position in 2018.

From 2010 to 2016, Wendeling Schröder was a member of the advisory board of the Hugo Sinzheimer Institute (HSI) in Frankfurt am Main. The institute has been part of the Hans Böckler Foundation since January 2018 .

Judicial and arbitration activities

From 1999 to 2013, Wendeling-Schröder was a judge at the Lower Saxony State Court . She was a referee from 1999 to 2018 as a member of the Appeals Board OCCAR (Organization Conjointe de Cooperation en Matière d'Armement). From 2011 to 2017, Wendeling-Schröder was also a member of the DGB Court of Arbitration .

International activities

From 2001 to 2013, Wendeling-Schröder was a member of the European Working Group on Labor Law (EWL). In the 2001/2002 winter semester she was visiting professor at the Sydney Law School. From 2003 to 2013 she was a member of the Groupe d'études franco-allemand sur le contentieux du Travail (Gefact). In 2004 she received a research professorship at the University of Utrecht .
