The Immaculate Conception Church , also known colloquially as St. Mary for short , is the Catholic church in Grasdorf , a district of the municipality of Holle in the Hildesheim district in Lower Saxony . The church, named after the Marian title " Immaculate Conception ", is located at Hildesheimer Straße 10 and belongs to the parish of St. Hubertus with its seat at Burg Wohldenberg , in the Alfeld-Detfurth dean's office of the Hildesheim diocese . In addition to Grasdorf, the catchment area of ​​the church also includes the villages of Binder , Heersum , Luttrum and Wartjenstedt . history

The Nikolaikirche in Grasdorf, built in the 12th century, became Evangelical-Lutheran in 1568. In 1330 another church was built in Grasdorf, it was built as an expiatory chapel by Bishop Otto II from the Wohldenberg family and bore the patronage of "Beatae Mariae". After the introduction of the Reformation , the chapel was no longer used and weathered.

From 1701 the chapel was rebuilt as the Catholic parish church of Grasdorf. In 1789, the rectory next to the church was built. In 1936 the foundation stone was laid for the west tower with its striking corner blocks.

From 1977 the pastor from Sottrum took care of the church . Since December 1, 2002, the church has belonged to the then newly established Deanery Alfeld-Detfurth, previously it belonged to the Deanery Bockenem-Detfurth. Since August 1st, 2004 the church belongs to the parish “St. Hubertus Wohldenberg ”, the parish“ Immaculate Conception Maria ”in Holle-Grasdorf was canceled in this context.

The east-facing church is 98 meters above sea level . Your church stalls leave a central aisle free and offer visitors around 88 seats. The tabernacle is framed by two small angel statues. Next to the chancel there is a statue of St. Lawrence of Rome , the baptismal font and a crescent moon Madonna , in front of which sacrificial candles can be placed. 14 stations of the cross hang on the side walls . In December 2001 the church received ten new stained glass windows designed by the Düsseldorf artist Thomas Jessen, eight of which show different scenes from the life of Mary. Two further windows are dedicated to the martyr Johannes Nepomuk , who can often be seen as a “bridge saint” on representations in the Hildesheim region, and to the copatron Laurentius of Rome. The middle of the three windows in the choir shows Jesus teaching with a book in his hand. The two letters visible in the book, Alpha and Omega (Α and Ω), are the first and the last letter of the classical Greek alphabet and a symbol for the beginning and the end, thus for the comprehensive, for God .

Autobahn Church

In March 2011, the church, together with the Evangelical Lutheran Nikolaikirche, which is just under 300 meters away, was named a motorway church. It was handed over for this purpose on October 9, 2011. It can be reached via junction 63 (Derneburg / Salzgitter) of federal highway 7 and junction 22 (Baddeckestedt) of federal highway 39 . The federal highway 6 also leads past Grasdorf. There is a parking lot in front of the former parsonage, in the house, among other things, the toilets for church visitors.
