Undecanoic acid is a carboxylic acid from the homologous series of saturated fatty acids . At room temperature, it is a white solid that melts from 29 ° C. Their salts and esters are called undecanoates .
Occurrence and representation
Undecanoic acid is found in some essential oils , such as iris and mullet oil . The acid can be synthesized by hydrogenation of undecylenic acid , which is accessible by pyrolysis of ricinoleic acid .
use
The methyl and ethyl esters are used in perfumery.
