Unteriglbach is a district of the Ortenburg market in the Lower Bavarian district of Passau .

Name origin

Like all places ending in -bach, the name Iglbach initially describes a body of water on which the settlement is located. The "-bach" locations are considered to be witnesses of early penetration into the woodland. In the topography of Baiern by Philipp Apian , which was written in Latin around 1580, the village of Ober-Eglbach is listed with the church. It is also said - supra hunc rivus ritur - a stream rises above it. It's the Iglbach. Unter-Eglbach is mentioned in Apian without any further addition. The spelling with the E-sound is not found in any other source. Apian may have thought of a derivation of leeches, like leeches, or of hedgehogs. It is more likely that it is derived from a personal name. Similar to Aldersbach , Aidenbach and Beutelsbach , Iglbach is probably also formed with a personal name. Aldaro or Altheri, Eito, Putilo. At Iglbach we can think of the nickname Iglo from the short form Igo. Both forms are recorded in the old German name books of Förstemann and Kaufmann as popular and therefore common name forms.

history

The personal names mentioned above refer to the earliest residents, owners or beneficiaries of the brooks, of which nothing more has come down to us. The earliest documented mention of Iglbach comes from the reign of Bishop Reginmar of Passau from 1121 to 1138. Among the witnesses of an exchange of goods by the bishop are also ministerials of the church, including an Altman de igilpach . Witnesses appear repeatedly in the documents of the 12th and 13th centuries who name themselves after Iglbach and thus prove an early local nobility in Iglbach.

In the mediaeval documents mentioned so far, Iglbach was the only reference. The distinction between Oberiglbach and Unteriglbach does not appear until the 14th century. In 1349 the Altenmarkt monastery owned an estate in Nyderniglpach , part of the Steinkirchen parish near Ortenburg. In 1352 Heinrich III. , Graf zu Ortenberg , his consent to the sale u. a. of a property in Oberigelbach, which Meinhart, the Schnitzer, is a fief of him, on condition that it can be bought again for 12 pounds Regensburg pfennig.

There is a certain difference between the two Iglbachs in their profane affiliation. In the Scharwerksbuch from 1577, in which the manual and tensioning services of the court subjects are determined, Obernyglpach near Ortenburg belongs to Count Joachim - however, Unteryglpach belongs to the subjects of his cousin Count Ulrich von Ortenburg, " belonging to Söldenau ". In the "statistical information about the Duchy of Baiern" by Joseph von Hazzi (1804) Unteriglbach is recorded with 8 houses and 8 hearths without any additional information . The "Repertory of the topographical atlas sheet Passau" from 1841 calls Unteriglbach a village with 9 houses, 1 branch church, 1 schoolhouse, 1 beer tavern, 1 brickworks.

According to the 1925 census, the parish village of Unteriglbach has 26 residential buildings and 161 residents. The official statistics from 1978 list the parish village Unteriglbach with 230 inhabitants.

In the 1970s and 1980s Unteriglbach went through rapid economic development. Numerous large building areas have been designated and recreational opportunities have also been created. On October 1, 1970, the municipality of Iglbach merged with the municipality of Söldenau to form the new municipality of Wolfachau . It was hoped to avoid a forced incorporation. On May 1, 1978, however, the municipality of Wolfachau was incorporated into Ortenburg as part of the municipal reform in Bavaria.

Parish organization

The parishes of Ober- and Unteriglbach are also separated in terms of parish organization. Oberiglbach with the church patron St. Martin has always belonged to the vicariate and later, after the abolition of the collegiate monastery St. Johannes in Vilshofen in 1803, since 1804 to the parish of Aunkirchen .

Unteriglbach with the church patron St. Vitus belonged to the parish of Steinkirchen. In 1513, Stefan Kontzmaier von Unteriglbach donates an anniversary in the "Nidern Iglpach" church. Following the introduction of the Reformation in Ortenburg- Steinkirchen in 1563, Unteriglbach was placed under the parish of Holzkirchen in 1574. In 1863 it became an exposed cooperative, in 1903 its own parish.
