Unterinn ( Italian Auna di Sotto ) is a fraction of the municipality of Ritten .

The village is located at about 900  m altitude on the Renon above Bolzano , on the road that leads from Rentsch to Klobenstein . You can reach the village from Bolzano as well as from the Eisack Valley (via the Barbian districts of Kollmann and Saubach). Unterinn also includes the districts of Unterplatten and Eschenbach.

Surname

The place name is first documented in 1214 as "Vna" and 1305 as "Unna" and means "undulating terrain". The narrower designation as "Unndterine" occurs in 1417 and correlates with the Oberinn, which is also higher up on the Renon .

education

In Unterinn there is a kindergarten and a primary school with a small public library. Further education takes place at the main town of the municipality, Klobenstein ( middle school ), or in the provincial capital Bozen (vocational and high schools).

Churches

The St. Luzia Church - referred to as "sanct Luceien" in 1417 - is the oldest church on Renon and has been part of the Teutonic Order since the 13th century . It was baroque in the 18th century and redesigned in a new Romanesque style in the 19th century. Another church is the St. Sebastian Church outside the village - a smaller building, located on the old Kaiserweg and formerly surrounded by a small zoo.
