Untermettingen is a district of the Baden-Württemberg community of Ühlingen-Birkendorf in the Waldshut district .

Untermettingen is located at 520 m above sea level in the Steinatal .

history

Together with Endermettingen and Löhningen , the place belonged to the independent municipality of Obermettingen until it was incorporated into Ühlingen-Birkendorf .

In the first year of Emperor Ludwig and in the first year of Pope Benedict III. On August 21, 855, the priest Meginhart handed over his property (in Mettingen) to the Rheinau monastery in his court in Mettingen . With this Mettingen the first developed today's Unter Mettingen is meant.

In 1373 the village appears for the first time as ze Nidren Mettingen . The largest landowners were the St. Blasien Monastery and the Berau Monastery . In 1394 the St. George knight Friedrich von Ofteringen is the owner of Untermettingen Castle . In 1389 he sold a property to the Riedern am Wald monastery . Heinrich von Erzingen lived here in 1427 and owned pledged goods from the Fürstenbergers . He was mentioned for the last time in 1469. Hans von Krenkingen , known as von Küssenberg , Baron von Roggenbach, sat at Untermettingen Castle . In 1481 he handed over the sixth part of the tithe to Mettingen, Raßbach and Löhningen to Georg von Erzingen and his wife Ursula . Heir was then Wilhelm von Grießen , he sold his share in 1495 to the Berau monastery. In 1599 Johann Jakob von Beck became the governor of Mettingen. In 1610 the rule was bought by Maximilian von Pappenheim and in 1639 by the Fürstenbergers .

On January 1, 1974, Untermettingen was incorporated into the community of Ühlingen. On January 1, 1975, this formed the new community of Ühlingen-Birkendorf together with Birkendorf and Brenden.

The parish church in Untermettingen dates back to 1738. Before that, Untermettingen and Raßbach were part of the Schwerzen parish .
