The Ural-5557 ( Russian Урал-5557 ) is a four-wheel drive truck produced by the Russian Uralsky Avtomobilny Sawods . It is based on the much better known Ural-4320 and has been in series production since 1984. The vehicle, originally designed as a tipper, was later used for various special bodies due to its higher payload that cannot be loaded onto an Ural-4320.

Production of the Ural-5557 began in the Uralsky Avtomobilny Zavod in 1984. The vehicle, which is optically and technically based on the Ural-4320, is built to carry seven to ten tons of bulk material through almost any terrain. It is also equipped with large single tires on all axles, all-wheel drive and a tire pressure control system.

Today the truck is only offered with diesel engines from the Jaroslawski Motorny Sawod (JaMZ). In particular, these are different variants of the six-cylinder JaMZ-236 and the eight-cylinder JaMZ-238 . In previous years of construction, eight-cylinder diesel engines from KAMAZ were also installed, as they were also used in the KamAZ-5320 . The large-volume engines all have displacements from 10.85 to 14.86 liters and are consumption-intensive. With the eight-cylinder from JaMZ, consumption is estimated at around 36 liters per 100 kilometers. The diesel engine, which has been in production since the early 1960s, does not meet any EURO emissions standard. Machines with a maximum of EURO 2 are available.

The mechanical five-speed gearbox is manual and also comes from JaMZ. With a downstream ground reduction system, ten gears are effectively available. The maximum speed is 80 km / h. In order to do justice to its original purpose as an agricultural tipper, the gear ratio was chosen so that the truck can be moved in first gear at speeds of three kilometers per hour. So it can be used next to slow agricultural machines during harvest.

Model variants

The truck is built for two different purposes and thus in two different forms. On the one hand, there are vehicles with high, rectangular superstructures for light bulk goods such as those used in agriculture. On the other hand, mostly under the designation Ural-55571, trucks with a higher payload of ten tons are manufactured in the form of dump trucks , which are intended to transport heavy bulk goods. They are used in particular on construction sites for sand, gravel, crushed stone and the like.

The following list gives an overview of the most important versions of the vehicle that have been built over the past 30 years. It does not claim to be complete.

  • Ural-5557-10 - Agricultural tipper with seven tons of payload and six-cylinder engine with eleven liters of the JaMZ-236 type. In the course of the production history, the vehicle was equipped with side walls of different heights.
  • Ural-5557-30 - Agricultural dump truck with seven tons of payload on dirt roads and ten tons of payload on paved roads. An eight-cylinder JaMZ-238M2 engine with a displacement of almost 15 liters serves as the power unit. In the course of the production history, the vehicle was equipped with side walls of different heights.
  • Ural-5557-31 - Slightly modernized Ural-5557-30.
  • Ural-5557-40 - Corresponds to the Ural-5557-30, but a more modern six-cylinder engine of the type JaMZ-236NE2 has been installed, which has an output of 230 hp and meets the EURO 2 emissions standard.
  • Ural-55571-10 - dump truck for construction site use with a payload of only seven tons and a six-cylinder engine of the type JaMZ-236NE2 with 230 HP.
  • Ural-55571-30 - dump truck for construction site use with ten tons of payload of eight-cylinder engine of the type JaMZ-238M2 with 240 HP.

In addition to the versions as tipper, the Ural-5557-30 and Ural-5557-40 were also offered as a chassis without a body as of 2010. These chassis serve as a platform for a whole range of special bodies. These include winter service vehicles as well as fire engines, road construction machines, special vehicles for the oil industry or mobile cranes . The list below is not necessarily exhaustive.

  • ATZ-7,5-5557 - tanker for 7500 liters of combustible fuel, six-cylinder engine.
