Uwe Preißler (born June 17, 1967 in Mühlhausen , Erfurt district ) is a former German cyclist who was active in both track cycling and road cycling . In 1988 he took part in the Summer Olympics for the German Democratic Republic and started playing for SC Turbine Erfurt . In the early 1990s, he moved to RC Olympia Dortmund.

Athletic career

Track cycling

In 1985 Uwe Preißler became Junior World Champion in the team pursuit together with Michael Bock , Steffen Blochwitz and Thomas Liese . He was nominated for the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul by the National Olympic Committee of the GDR and was used in the team pursuit over 4000 meters. In the qualifying round, he and his teammates ensured progress. He was no longer used in the other laps. Nevertheless, alongside Steffen Blochwitz, Roland Hennig , Dirk Meier and Carsten Wolf, he is part of the team that won silver behind the Soviet Union. He celebrated his greatest national success at the GDR track cycling championships in 1989 : Together with the SC Turbine Erfurt team , he won the GDR championship title in the team pursuit over 4000 meters.

Road cycling

He took part in both the GDR tour in 1987 and the GDR tour in 1989 . In 1987 he took fourth place in the eighth stage, which led around the Inselsberg , and won the Volta Provincia de Castello in Spain . In 1988 he won the traditional Berlin – Leipzig race in a sprint ahead of Uwe Raab . In 1989 he took seventh place in the sixth stage, which led from Zwickau to Schwarzenberg , and the seventh stage, which ran through the Ore Mountains . In 1990 he won the Circuit Franco-Belge stage race .
