Václav Toman

Václav Toman (born December 30, 1963 in Plzeň ) is a former Czechoslovak cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

He first played ice hockey , then switched to cycling at the age of 16. At the beginning of his career, Toman won the Tour of Slovakia in 1986 . A year later he won the Tour de Bohemia (as again in 1991) and was able to win two titles at the Czechoslovak championships. He won the road race from Jiří Fojt and the individual time trial from Karel Camrda . At that time he started for the association RH Plzeň ( Red Star Plzeň ). He won the time trial championship from 1987 to 1989.

For the national team in 1987 he made several tours in Luxembourg , Switzerland and Germany . In 1989 he won the mountain classification of the Tour of Cuba . When he got out of the race in 1987 on a storm stage of the International Peace Tour, his association wanted to exclude him from the national team. His club coaches Zdeněk Hasman and Luděk Kubias stood up for him and he was able to continue abroad. Several times he received offers from professional teams , but these were blocked by his association. In 1990 he went to Austria , where he started for ARBÖ Vienna , then switched to Puch and also ended his career in 1996.

Professional

Toman was a police officer in his hometown. He later worked as a cycling trainer in Austria and after his return to the Czech Republic he lives with his wife in Chotíkov , where he also runs a bicycle service.
