The Val Bernina ( side valley of the Upper Engadine in the Swiss canton of Graubünden . It is around 17 kilometers long and extends from the foot of the Muottas Muragl in a south-easterly direction to Lago Bianco at the Bernina Pass .
) is the highestThe only village in the valley is Pontresina . All field names are Romansh and follow the dialect Puter . It is traversed by the Bernina stream , which separates the Livigno Alps (northeast) from the Bernina Alps (southwest) and on whose banks the valley stations of the cable cars to Diavolezza (left) and Piz Lagalb (right) are located.
Side valleys of Val Bernina are on the one hand (right) Val Muragl , Val da Fain and Val Minor and (left) Val Roseg and Val Morteratsch . The latter lies at the foot of the famous Piz Bernina and, with the Morteratsch Glacier, has the largest glacier in the Engadine.
The valley is accessible from the cantonal road Samedan - Tirano and the Bernina Express of the Rhaetian Railway .
