Valentin Forster
Valentin Forster (also: Förster ; born January 20, 1530 in Wittenberg ; † October 26, 1608 in Helmstedt ) was a German lawyer.
Life
Born as the son of rent master of the Wittenberg office and judge at the Saxon court court, of the same name († 1558) and his wife Eva Platner, he came from a respected Saxon family. His parents attached great importance to his education from an early age. Educated at the University of Wittenberg by Philipp Melanchthon , he acquired the academic degree of a master's degree at the philosophical faculty on August 14, 1550 under the dean's office of Paul Eber . He then went to the University of Padua , where he began studying law. He moved to the French University of Bourges , where he was a student of Franciscus Duarenus and Hugo Donellus . In Poitiers in 1556 he got into conflict because of his Protestant attitude.
For unknown reasons, he went into Spanish military service in 1557. He then traveled to Italy , gave mathematics lessons in Padua , became tutor to a nobleman who commissioned him to translate the Bohemian mining regulations into Spanish for the West Indian gold mines. Due to an argument with an Italian monk, he was in danger of falling into the hands of the Inquisition . He fled back to Bourges and received his doctorate in law under Hugo Donellus in 1559 .
On his return to Germany he gave lectures in Wittenberg and at the University of Ingolstadt and in 1565 wrote his “Historia juris”. Duke Erich the Younger of Braunschweig appointed him President of the Court Court in Münden , in 1569 he became a professor as Johannes Oldendorp's successor at the University of Marburg, and Donellus' successor at the University of Heidelberg .
In 1583 he left this position because the Palatinate turned to the Calvinist faith . Therefore, he went to Worms as a legal counsel , and took up a professorship at the University of Helmstedt in 1595 . During his time as a professor, he was also the rector's office in Marburg in 1571 and 1580, in Heidelberg in 1581 and vice-chancellor's office in Helmstedt in 1599 .
