The Vanuatu U-20 national football team is a selection team of Vanuatu football players , which is subject to the Vanuatu Football Federation .

history

The U-20 team played their first international match on December 8, 1974 against Tahiti , which they lost 2-1, at that time still formed as the New Hebrides Condominium . The team plays mainly on the continental level, especially in the U-20 Oceania Championship , which takes place every two years . They have already participated in this 14 times. Her biggest achievement was second place in 2014 . At the 2016 tournament they were able to secure their first participation in a U-20 World Cup in their own country by moving into the final, which was lost to New Zealand ( South Korea 2017 ). There the team met Germany , Mexico and Venezuela in the preliminary round . The team lost all three group games, but attracted attention with two goals and narrow defeats against Mexico and Germany.
