Vargo

Vargo is the German electronics musician and producer Ansgar Üffink. His electronic sound worlds are often enriched with world music elements. They are mainly assigned to the music genres vocal, ambient / chill out / lounge . Vargo first received international attention through various publications on the CD series Café del Mar and Buddha Bar .

Band history

Üffink was born on July 9, 1960 near Borken (Westphalia). After completing his sound engineering degree at the Institute for Sound Engineers in Munich (today SAE ) in the mid-80s, he collected a. a. Various experiences in the music industry as a producer and finally moved to Hamburg in 1995. In 2000 Vargo was founded and the first still instrumental track "Electric Diver", which was finally released on Spirit Zone on "Global Psychedelic Chillout 2".

After visiting the Café del Mar in Ibiza, Üffink wrote the title "Get Back To Serenity" in 2001, which made it necessary to search for a singer. At an audition of three singers, Stephanie Hundertmark was the first to be allowed to audition . Üffink decided spontaneously for her without listening to the other singers. The track "Get Back To Serenity" recorded with her was published on the compilation "Café del mar Dreams 2" and has developed into a chillout classic that has been requested to this day (as of July 2006) for around 50 compilations. In the meantime, the requesting record companies are using existing remixes of the song when compiling their compilations .

In order to be able to devote himself completely to Vargo, Üffink quit his job, flew to Ibiza in October 2001 and started working on the album "Beauty" there. During this work he met Bruno Lepretre ( Resident DJ of the Café del Mar), and a long-term musical collaboration developed under the name Lovers Lane with further publications on many compilations.

The album was worked on for two years until it was finally released in France in early 2004. Isabelle Vaudey of the French label Vox Terrae originally asked for two tracks for compilations, but in the end she wanted to release the album as well. Vaudey later made the connection for a release in the United States. In France, in the USA and in large parts of Asia the album sold with great success. A strategic label community was founded for Germany between the management of Modern Soul and Üffink's production company Ambient Domain , from whose collaboration the album was released in Germany in November 2004.

In 2010 the album "Precious" was released on his own label Ambient Domain, which he runs together with his partner Timm Korth. Since then, Üffink has published the compilation series "Lauschkost", "Vargo Lounge - Summer Celebration" and "Vargo Lounge - 10 Years of Chill Out" under the name Vargo. All compilations were at the top of the iTunes Electronic Charts. Lauschkost 3 reached number one.

At the beginning of 2014, Üffink launched the radio program "Vargo Lounge - Sessions", which has since been broadcast on Planet Radio , Sceen FM and Ocean Radio Chilled . The broadcast is also sent regularly to Vargos newsletter subscribers, who can hear them regardless of the broadcast time. In November 2014, Vargo's third album "Goodbye is a New Beginning" was released. The name says it all , because it is the farewell album from singer Stephanie Hundertmark , who wants to withdraw more from the music business. The farewell concert took place in the Hamburg Planetarium for the album release .

Vargo in public

  • Live performances at the Lovefield Festival 2003 and the Deichbrand Festival 2015, in Raphaël Marionneau's café abstrait in Hamburg, in the Planetarium Berlin and Hamburg or the Sand World in Travemünde and in Dubai .
  • Germany tour 2007: Vargo DJ set together with Qbi Power Yoga.
  • Vargo direct releases reached almost every country in the world.
  • In Singapore , Vargo made it into the top 40 with their album “Beauty”.
  • In Germany, “Beauty” was in the iTunes album charts for months and is a permanent guest in the iTunes electronic charts (top position: 3rd place). The track "The Flow" rose to number six in the iTunes title charts.
  • Vargo's “Get Back to Serenity” was selected for the TV commercial for the non-smoking campaign for the 2006 World Cup (with Michael Ballack and Owen Hargreaves, among others ), which was shown several times in all stadiums for all games except on TV.
  • Sony Pictures Imageworks (responsible for films such as Spider-Man , Matrix and Aviator ) is acquiring the rights to the Vargo piece "Electric Diver" for their new showreel .
  • The surround sound mix of the Vargo title “Get Back to Serenity” served the Fraunhofer Institute IIS as a reference for the MP3 surround format.
  • Based on the Vargo title “Silence”, filmmaker Kerstin Sprenger created a short film shot on Super 8 , which was shown at the Revelation Filmfest in Perth (Australia) and at the Film Festival in Calgary (Canada).
  • Vargo music has been used in international Fujitsu Siemens or MAN commercials . These commercials ran at numerous festivals and have won multiple awards, for example ITVA Festival Cologne, CINE Washington DC, WorldFest Houston etc.
  • The album "Beauty" is nominated in the USA in three categories of the 2006 NAR Lifestyle Music Award: Best Vocal Album, Best Dance / Dub / Club Album, Best Cover Art.
  • American author Dan Millman made a guest appearance on Vargo's 2010 album "Precious" . His voice can be heard on the track "Warriors", which was inspired by his book The Path of the Peaceful Warrior .
