Geographical description

Geographically, Velbert-Losenburg is bounded by Heiligenhaus-Tüschen in the west, the Krehwinkler Höfe in the south, Langenhorst in the northeast, Essen-Oefte in the northwest and Friedfeld in the east.

History and name transfer

The name Losenburg goes back to a farm on the extreme northwestern edge of the district, which was in the Honschaft Krehwinkel . The district took on this name since the large new building expansion in the 1970s to 1990s. The Krehwinkler Höfe were densely populated in the valley of the Rinderbach (then Uellenbeek).

Around the 1890s, the construction of a few tenement houses on Losenburger Weg began on Landstrasse after Werden. In the 1930s, a small settlement was built on Borhorster Weg. At that time the district was called Plätze. The residential development on the Plätze was expanded after the war and numerous refugees moved in.

With the construction of the Niederberg Clinic from 1973, the district was considerably expanded and the name Losenburg was introduced (today it is sometimes called Velbert-Nord or Losenburg-Plätze).

The hamlet of Krehwinkler Höfe has been demolished except for one residential building and is no longer known as a district.
