history

The western border of the community was the Deilbach , on the west bank of which was the city of Langenberg , which belonged to the Rhine province . On the Westphalian side of the Deilbach was Märkisch Langenberg , an extension of the city of Langenberg on Westphalian soil, which was structurally and economically closely intertwined with Langenberg in the Rhineland, but belonged to the municipality of Oberbonsfeld. In the middle of the 19th century, efforts began to unite the two halves of Langenberg under local law.
By a Prussian law specially enacted for this case, the municipality of Oberbonsfeld was incorporated into the city of Langenberg in the then Mettmann district on April 1, 1881 , making it the first Prussian municipality to be reclassified from Westphalia to the Rhineland. Langenberg and Oberbonsfeld have been part of the city of Velbert since 1975.
