Vera Solymosi-Thurzo

Vera Solymosi-Thurzó (pronunciation: ʃojmoʃi-tuɾzo :, * February 21, 1925 in Budapest ; † June 2, 2016 in Rum , Vas County , Hungary ) was a German-Hungarian artist , academic painter and graphic designer . Her almost 200 paintings have been shown in numerous exhibitions in Germany, the USA and Hungary.

Career

After graduating from high school, she studied painting and teaching at the University of Fine Arts in Budapest (1945–1948), art history at the University of Munich (1957) and painting and graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich (1957–1960).

She lived in Budapest until 1956, then in Munich; between 1961 and 1962 she did a study visit to the USA. In 1989 she moved to Berlin, where she worked for three years and was active in the Spandauer Kunstverein . In 1992 she moved into a studio in Rum , Hungary , where she created numerous other paintings until her death.

Works

  • Almost 200 paintings (oil on canvas, watercolor , tempera , gouache and mixed media )
  • Over 5000 illustrations in over 200 volumes from publishers in Munich and New York
  • Greeting cards and labels from publishers in Munich, London, Paris, New York

What makes them special are musically inspired paintings: they are exhibited with headphones; the works of Carl Orff , Johann Sebastian Bach , Tomaso Albinoni , Edvard Grieg etc. can be heard while viewing the pictures.
