Veronika Exler (born December 24, 1990 in Vienna ) is an Austrian chess player .

Life

She learned to play chess from her father at the age of ten and then went to high school. She studied biology and physics at the University of Vienna .

Your chess club is the Donaustadt Vienna chess club . In the Austrian Federal Chess League she played for SV Wulkaprodersdorf , winning the women's Bundesliga with Wulkaprodersdorf in the 2011/12 and 2013/14 seasons . In Germany, she plays in the 2nd Women's Bundesliga South for FC Bayern Munich , with whom she played in the 1st Women's Bundesliga in the 2018/19 season.

Veronika Exler won several Austrian junior championships, for example the U14 state championship for girls in 2004 in Aigen im Mühlkreis , the U16 state championship for girls in 2005 in Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer and 2006 in Tschagguns as well as the Austrian championship for girls U18 in 2007 in Bad Ischl .

Her greatest successes include her results at national championships for women. In 2009 in Jenbach she was third, in 2013 in Feldkirch-Gisingen she won the state championship. In 2014 in Feistritz an der Drau she was third again and in 2015 in Pinkafeld she took second place behind Katharina Newrkla . After Exler finished second behind Anna-Christina Kopinits in Graz in 2017 , she won the title in Vienna in 2018 .

For the Austrian women's national team, she played in seven women's Mitropa Cups : 2005 and 2007 on the reserve board, 2010 on the second board, 2014, 2015 and 2016 on the top board and 2017 on the third board. At the Mitropa Cup 2014 in Ružomberok , she achieved a standard for receiving the title of International Women's Champion (WIM). She took part with the Austrian women's national team in five European team championships (2009, 2011 , 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019), achieving her second WIM standard in Reykjavík in 2015 , as well as in four women's chess Olympiads ( 2010 , 2012 , 2014 , 2016) and 2018 ).

In 2009 she became the Women's FIDE Champion (WFM). She has been the International Women's Champion (WIM) since March 2017 . She achieved the final third norm for this in the A group of the Vienna Chess Open in August 2016. Their Elo rating is 2218 (as of January 2020). Her highest rating to date was 2289 in April 2019.
