action

In the opening sequence you can see a Russian businessman signing contracts in a luxury hotel and then being shot dead on the way home by a fake police cordon along with his wife and daughter.

The London literary professor Perry MacKendrick and his wife, the successful lawyer Gail MacKendrick, are on vacation in Marrakech to rejuvenate the relationship that has been damaged by Perry's affair with a student. There he meets in a restaurant the Russian Mafia - money launderers Dima know who asks him for help because he seek killer within the Mafia after life. Dima gives Perry a USB stick with data on Mafia members and people involved in Mafia businesses with the request that it be handed over to the British secret service MI6 on the return journey so that Dima and his family can obtain asylum and personal protection in Great Britain in return for further information .

MI6 man Hector interrogates Perry at London Airport. Perry says he's finished his job. However, a short time later Hector appears in Perry's lecture. Dima wants to negotiate with MI6 - but only in Perry's presence.

It gradually becomes clear that Hector is trading with a three-man team without the consent of his superior, Billy Matlock. His supervisor is Aubrey Longrigg, who had caused by a tip that Hector's son had to go to prison for a drug offense.

Despite the small number of agents, they manage to negotiate with Dima - separately from his suspicious guards - in a Paris luxury tennis club . Dima is to transfer the laundered funds to the accounts of the newly founded Arena Bank in Bern . After that, he would be superfluous for his clients and must fear the fate of his friend Misha, whose death can be seen at the beginning of the film. Hector and his team, expanded by Perry and Gail, are able to smuggle Dima's family to an airport despite being monitored by the Mafia. But his superiors refuse Dima and his family entry to Great Britain. Therefore, Hector has the refugees temporarily brought to a safe house in the French Alps. Because Dima's daughter has fallen in love with the mafioso Andrei and calls him at night, the Russians are able to track down the family. However , they can be fended off in a nightly firefight in the forest around the house. Perry saves Dima from a mafia killer at the last moment.

The next day Dima is to be flown to London alone. But his escape helicopter explodes in front of Perry's eyes shortly after taking off. Dima's family gets to London safely.

In the final scene, Perry hands MI6 agent Hector an old Colt 1911 army pistol on behalf of Dima. In the course of this, Hector found a slip of paper with the names, accounts and amounts of British politicians who made it possible to move the Arena Bank from Cyprus to London; u. a. is called Longrigg therein.

Reviews

“Director Susanna White (' A Magical Nanny ') is more interested in the 'soft skills' of the secret service than in the usual action in the cinema . Accordingly, Perry stages her as a socially conscious beatnik: he stands up for the threatened Dima just as selflessly as he, as a gentleman and gentleman, jumps to oppressed ladies without fear of a bloody nose. "

- Jörg Schöning : Spiegel Online

"Susanna White develops her thriller 'Traitors like us' in an elegant old-fashioned way - old-fashioned in that the film is not driven by breathtaking action sequences or dizzying twists, but by the precise drawing and motivation of the characters."
