The administration of the Muslims of the Caucasus ( Azerbaijani Qafqaz Müsəlmanları İdarəsi ; Russian Uprawlenije mussulman Kawkasa / Russian Управление мусульман Кавказа ; scientific transliteration : Upravlenie musul'man in the Caucasian spiritual authority : Upravlenie musul'man ) is the trans . Its headquarters are located in the Azerbaijani capital Baku on the site of the Tezepir Mosque . It has been administered by its head, Sheikhülislam Allahşükür Paşazadə (Allahschükür Paschazade; born 1949), since 1980. Address: Baku, MF Axundov Street 7. The purpose of the institution is to support and organize all Muslims ( Sunnis and Shiites ) in the South and North Caucasus . It reports to the Islamic University of Baku . There are branches in Georgia , Chechnya , Dagestan , Karachay , Kalmykia , Kabardino-Balkaria , Adygea , Ingushetia and Ossetia .

history

The history of the institution begins in the tsarist times in the first half of the 19th century: In 1823 an organization with a comparatively small sphere of influence was established for the first time, under the leadership of the Shiite Ach and Sheikh Mahammadali Huseinzadeh, who worked as Sheikhul Islam until 1846; In 1832, a Sunni muftiate was also founded in Tbilisi . From 1872/1873 there was the spiritual administration of the Muslims of Transcaucasia , "which however was perceived as a" representative "of the colonial power". During the time of the Soviet Union , the Spiritual Administration of the Muslims of the Caucasus was established in 1944 , and this name was retained until the collapse of the Soviet Union . In 1992 the institution was given its current name. In the same year, Sheikhul Islam Allahşükür Paşazadə (Allahshukur Pashazade) was elected chairman of the Supreme Religious Council of the Caucasus by religious leaders from Azerbaijan , Georgia , Dagestan , Kabardino-Balkaria , Ingushetia , Chechnya , Karachay-Cherkessia and Adygeja . In 2003 he was then on the XI. Congress of Muslims of the Caucasus appointed Sheikhul Islam for life. Larger mosques are the Tezepir Mosque , Ajdarbay Mosque, and Heydar Mosque, all in Baku .
