The Vetzberg in the Biebertal district of the same name Vetzberg is a small extinct volcano in the district of Gießen in Central Hesse .

Geology and geography

The 310  m above sea level NHN Hohe Vetzberg is a volcano-typical cone mountain , consisting of basalt . It belongs to the geomorphological landscape of Central Hesse, which was shaped by former volcanism . Neighboring known extinct or only partially active volcanoes are the Gleiberg , Vogelsberg , Amöneburg and the Stoppelberg . Bounding low mountain ranges are the Taunus , the Westerwald , the Rothaargebirge and the Burgwald . Vetzberg Castle, named after him, is located at the top .
