The Victoria is a cargo ship sailing under the flag of Antigua and Barbuda . The owner of the ship is the MS "Victoria" Schiffahrtsgesellschaft mbH & Co. Reederei KG in Haren / Ems . The ship was operated by the Intersee Schiffahrtsgesellschaft in Haren. In 2014 and 2018 the ship was resold and sails today (May 2019) as Onego Maas .

kidnapping

On May 5, 2009, the Victoria was in a convoy with a cargo of around 10,000 tons of rice on its way from India to the Saudi Arabian Jeddah . The convoy had been registered with the Coordination Office for Allied Forces of the UK Royal Navy's Maritime Trade Organization (UKMTO) in Dubai prior to departure and had not left the recommended route but was not accompanied by a warship.

The ship was attacked by Somali pirates about 120 kilometers south of the Yemeni coast and 220 kilometers north of Boosaaso . Operation Atalanta protection forces were too far away to intervene in the raid in time and did not reach the Victoria until she was already in the hands of the pirates. At the time of the attack, there was a Romanian crew of eleven on board the Victoria . On July 18, 2009, the ship was released by the Somali pirates.
