Vineta Mayer

Vineta Mayer (born July 1, 1865 in Trieste , † April 5, 1945 in Vienna ) was an Austrian mountaineer . Her maiden name was Seiller. She was a member of the Austrian Alpine Club .

Services (selection)

On August 9, 1903, she took part in the first ascent of the southeast route of the Cima Brenta Alta ( 2960  m ) in Trentino .

On August 11, 1903, she was the first woman to climb the neighboring Campanile Basso (Guglia di Brenta) ( 2883  m ).

In early February 1908, she was the first woman to reach the Cabane Vallot mountain hut ( 4362  m ) on Mont Blanc in winter .

Private

Mayer was married to the businessman Alfred Gustav Mayer (1862-1924), who was also a mountaineer, and they went on numerous tours together.

According to the ÖBL, Vineta and Alfred had two sons: Max Mayer (* 1890 or 1893) and the chemist Guido Mayer (1891–1945); Both were also mountaineers, carried out some first ascents in civilian life and during the mountain war, and also published. According to information from the IKG and the Reformed City Church, their parents were Bernard Mayer (1849–1918) and Mathilde Wiener (1866–1942).

Vineta committed suicide in her apartment in downtown Vienna when the Russian occupation troops approached .

memories

  • A room in the Karl-Ludwig-Haus on the Rax has been named after Mayer since 1903 after she donated the room furnishings on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Karl-Ludwig-Haus.
  • Mayer's name was (is?) Engraved on a stone at the summit of the Cima della Madonna in Trentino.
