The Violettschuppige or amethyst Pfifferling ( Cantharellus amethysteus , Syn. Cantharellus cibarius var.  Amethysteus ) is a mushroom art from the family of Pfifferling relatives (Cantharellaceae), whose fruit bodies the Real Pfifferling ( Cantharellus cibarius ) are very similar. Characteristic are the purple scales on the top of the hat and corresponding colors on the edge of the hat.

features

Young fruiting bodies of the violet-scaly chanterelle with the typical violet scales on the hat

Macroscopic features

The hat has a diameter of 3–9 (–15) centimeters, initially a hemispherical to arched shape, later an inverted funnel-shaped habit. The top of the hat is covered with darker violet scales, otherwise yolk to golden yellow with violet shades on the edge of the hat. The edge of the hat is irregularly wavy and often later curved. The underside of the hat is covered with comparatively low and more or less wide, often forked and cross-connected strips , which run down the handle and gradually taper off. The spore powder is pale yellow. The full-fleshed and hat-colored stem is short, 3–6 (–8) centimeters long, usually 1–2 centimeters thick, often curved, tapered downwards and goes up into the hat. The meat is crisp, firm, tough and fibrous in the handle, whitish to pale yellow in color, tastes mild to peppery and, in fresh specimens, has a fine fruity smell of apricots .

Microscopic features

The spores measure 8-10 x 4.5-6 micrometers and are elliptical in shape. They show no color reaction ( inamyloid ) with iodine reagents .

Species delimitation

It can be confused with the real chanterelle ( Cantharellus cibarius ), especially if the purple scales are sparse or only pale in color. The real chanterelle has no purple aspects in the color of the hat and mostly smaller fruiting bodies. The false chanterelle ( Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca ) and the olive tree mushroom ( Omphalotus olearius ), which is very rare in Germany, are potential doppelgangers, but have fruit bodies without ridges, but with a lamellar hymenophore on the underside of the hat.

Ecology and phenology

The violet-scaly chanterelle is a calciferous species of acidic beech, spruce, fir and spruce forests. It grows on fresh, distinctly base- and nutrient-poor raw , climbing , sand and loam soil over silicate rock and sandstone . Compared to the real chanterelle, the mushroom is more strongly bound to shallow places, such as forest paths and embankments with little vegetation. Vertically, the Leistling is widespread from the colline to high-montane altitude level, but has a clear montane focus.

The violet-scaly chanterelle fructifies from July to August, isolated finds can also be made in June or even in September.

distribution

The purple-scaly chanterelle is a European species and occurs in France, southern Germany and other Alpine countries.
