Vitus Brander

Vitus Brander (born June 2, 1880 in Reistenhausen , † March 30, 1969 in Würzburg ) was a German Roman Catholic theologian and church historian .

Life

Vitus Brander was born as the son of a craftsman in Reistenhausen on June 2, 1880. After completing elementary school , he began an apprenticeship as a stone cutter , and then successfully completed his Abitur at the grammar school in Aschaffenburg . He then studied at the Catholic seminary in Würzburg . There he received his ordination on July 31, 1904 . At first he worked as a chaplain . He then went on to study at the University of Berlin .

In Würzburg he became in 1907 the doctor of theology doctorate . The following year he was employed as prefect at the Kilianeum in Würzburg; He was appointed Subregens at the seminary on October 15, 1911. In the same year Brander tried to become a private lecturer for the New Testament at the University of Würzburg , but the application encountered resistance from Johannes Hehn and Sebastian Merkle , so that Brander was not given the position handed over.

At the Würzburg seminary, Brander was promoted to Regens on September 26, 1926; he held this office until November 30, 1936, and on the first day of the next year he was appointed to the Würzburg cathedral chapter . There he was appointed both papal house prelate and apostolic protonotary . He also played the role of chairman of the diocesan charity association for several years . He was also given the Bavarian Order of Merit (May 9, 1961).

Brander died in Würzburg on March 30, 1969 at the age of 88 and was buried in the chapter tomb of Würzburg Cathedral.
