Vivien Goldman (born August 25, 1954 in London ) is a British singer and music journalist for punk and reggae .

Life

Vivien Goldman is the child of two Jewish refugees from National Socialist Germany. She studied literature at the University of Warwick (BA) and worked for several years as a PR assistant for the Island Records label . In Paris she was one of the founders of the group The Flying Lizards and in 1981 produced the EP Dirty Washing . She sang and wrote songs for Massive Attack , Coldcut and Ryuichi Sakamoto .

Goldman wrote articles for the music magazines New Musical Express , Sounds and Melody Maker on reggae, punk and post-punk . Her contributions were also printed in New Statesman . Goldman wrote the first biography about Bob Marley . Goldman produced several programs on the Channel 4 television show Big World Café in 1989, combining English-language music with world music .

Goldman teaches punk and reggae music at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University (NYU) and also at the School of Communication and Information at Rutgers University .

Goldman lives in Manhattan .
