Vogorno is a municipality in the Verzasca Valley in the Verzasca district . It belongs to the Locarno district in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland .

geography

Vogorno is located on the Lago di Vogorno reservoir , above the Selvatica dam. Part of the village was flooded when the lake was dammed in the summer of 1965; the houses were rebuilt on the slope above the lake, see list of places in Switzerland flooded by reservoirs . Vogorno includes the districts Berzona , Sant'Antonio , San Bartolomeo , the Almen Odro , Sponda , Costapiana , Monda and Alp Bardughe which are located on sunlit slopes.

history

The village was first mentioned in 1234 as Vegorno and has been an independent municipality since 1235. Corippo belonged to the municipality until 1822 . The church of San Bartolomeo, the main church of the Verzasca Valley, was built in 1235. From the 16th century emigration began, which from 1850 led to overseas. Between 1961 and 1965 the dam was built for Lake Vogorno, one of the highest in Switzerland.
