About this picture
w

Brione (Verzasca) is a municipality in the Verzasca Valley in the Verzasca district . It belongs to the district of Locarno in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. The village image is classified in the inventory of protected sites in Switzerland (ISOS) as a site of national importance in Switzerland.

geography

Brione is located where the Verzasca Valley meets the Osola Valley drained by the Osura , in a small plain, the basin of a former lake that was dammed by a demolition from the Poncione d'Alnasca, 13 km northwest of the Gordola- Verzasca station of the Gotthard Railway (Bellinzona-Locarno route). To the east of the village is the Poncione d'Alnasca ( 2300  m above sea level ), whose vertical 600 m high wall was conquered for the first time in 1973.

history

Brione is a political and parish, which in the Middle Ages belonged to the community of the Verzasca valley , but formed a special squadra . When the valley was divided into communities, Brione formed one with Gerra (Verzasca) , but they were both special squadre . In 1852 the village became an independent municipality. Probably this Brione, and not Brione sopra Minusio , submitted to the Duke of Savoy from 1411-1412 with other communities and the Ossola Valley on his own initiative . From an ecclesiastical point of view, the village belonged to the parish of San Bartolomeo of Vogorno ; In 1518 it was separated from it. On the remains of a chapel from 1294, valuable frescoes from the 14th (Giotto School of Rimini) and 15th centuries have been preserved.
