Volker Klimmer

Volker Klimmer (born February 25, 1940 in Kaiserslautern ) is a German pharmacist, band leader of a dance band and jazz musician (pianist, arranger, composer).

Live and act

Klimmer studied pharmacy from 1964 to 1969 at the Friedrich-Alexander University in Erlangen. From 1972 to 2011 he ran a pharmacy in Kaiserslautern.

In his youth, Klimmer took piano lessons, was a participant in the “Arbeitskreis Jazz” at the VHS Kaiserslautern from 1958 to 1966, took care of the modern jazz group, was responsible for the school big band and wrote arrangements for concerts. From 2008 to 2009 he studied jazz and popular music at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts with Christoph Spendel , Christof Sänger and Michael Sagmeister . In 2009 further training took place at the Landesmusikakademie NRW with Vladislav Sendecki , Ack van Rooyen and Bart van Lier . He was also taught by Anke Helfrich .

The "Volker Klimmer Quintet" was created in 1960. It took part in national jazz festivals, such as the 2013 Kammgarn International Jazz Festival , and performed in various jazz clubs.

In 1966 he founded the "Volker Klimmer Band", which became known nationally and internationally; she also played on Mediterranean cruises. His twin brother Bernd Klimmer was a member of the band for many years . Between 1985 and 1997 the band performed at chancellor festivals in Bonn, for example in 1988 at the “ ZNS Ball” Bonn with patron Hannelore Kohl , at festivities of the Federal President such as in 1988 at the “Fest des Bürgers” of Federal President Roman Herzog in 1989 at the Bonn event "40 Years of the Federal Republic of Germany" as well as at state, sport and press balls. In 1998 the band performed in the Westfalenhalle Dortmund with Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl.

Klimmer had with his band u. a. Appearances with Deborah Sasson , Udo Jürgens , Gillian Scalici , Bill Ramsey , Ingrid Peters , Jean-Claude Pascal , Roberto Blanco , Ireen Sheer , Billy Mo , Joy Fleming , Mary Roos and Chris Howland .

In 1997 Klimmer founded the “MeranJazzNight” as part of the “Pharmacon Meran” and accompanied artists such as Greetje Kauffeld , Bill Ramsey , Joy Fleming and Peter Petrel for many years with his jazz band .

Volker Klimmer has been with Christine Klimmer, b. Rahn married; the couple have a daughter together.

Appearances on radio and television

In 1972 the Volker Klimmer Band was portrayed in the SWF television program Abendschau . Klimmer composed and produced music for television and industrial advertising. From 2000 he turned to jazz again and works mainly with Helmut Engelhardt, Pierre Paquette ( SWR Big Band ), Ralph (Mosch) Himmler, Wolfgang Janischowski, Ingo von Wenzlawowicz and singer Lisa Mosinski. In 2016 the anniversary benefit concert “50 Years of the Volker Klimmer Band” was organized in cooperation with the City of Kaiserslautern in the Fruchthalle in Kaiserslautern .

Honors

In 2005 the city of Kaiserslautern awarded him the "Barbarrosa Seal" for his special merits in shaping the cultural life of the city of Kaiserslautern.
