Volkmar Wolf Freiherr zu Putbus (* July 20, 1583 ; † July 24, 1637 ) was governor-general of the Duchy of Pomerania .

Life

Volkmar Wolf was a son of Ludwig I von Putbus († 1594). In 1599 he was enrolled at the University of Marburg . In honor of his honor, he was given the title of Rector of the University from July to September of the same year. Like his father and brother Erdmann († 1622), he was commander of the Order of St. John in Wildenbruch .

In October 1627, during the Thirty Years' War , he and Nikolaus (Klaus) von Ahnen were sent to the commander, Colonel von Arnim , to negotiate the averting of the imminent billeting of Imperial Wallenstein troops in Pomerania. In 1628 Duke Bogislaw XIV appointed him governor of the Pomeranian-Wolgast region . Volkmar Wolf von Putbus and Paul von Damitz were appointed guardians of the young Ernst Bogislaw von Croy in 1632 . In 1634 Volkmar Wolf was one of the witnesses to the donation of the Eldena office by the Duke to the University of Greifswald . In the same year, the seriously ill Duke, who was no longer capable of governing and who regulated his successor with the regimental constitution of 1634 , appointed him general governor and thus made him head of the ducal governments of Pomerania-Wolgast and Pomerania-Stettin. Elector Georg Wilhelm von Brandenburg certified him as governor of Pomerania in the event of the Greifenhaus becoming extinct , until the elector would take over his inheritance in Pomerania, referring to the Treaty of Grimnitz . During his tenure, Volkmar Wolf tried to mediate between the Swedes, who were occupied in Pomerania, and the Brandenburgers. After the Duke's death in 1637, accepted by the Swedes, he continued to head the Pomeranian interim government as governor-general. He died that same year.
