From country pastor to pope (original title: Gli uomini non guardano il cielo ) is an Italian feature film from 1952 . It is about Pope Pius X , who remembers his life in the last weeks of his pontificate under the impression of the looming First World War .

action

On June 28, 1914, an assassination attempt on the Austro-Hungarian heir to the throne Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Este was carried out in Sarajevo . Pope Pius X observed with concern that Austria-Hungary wanted war; but France, Germany and England are also ready to go to war.

When the Pope receives a visit from his nephew, he remembers his life. Born in Riese , he spent his childhood under humble circumstances. One day the local pastor put him in the seminary in Padua. After his ordination in 1858 he became a chaplain in Tombolo , in 1867 he became archpriest in Salzano . He took care of the sick during a cholera epidemic.
