Usedom (noble family)
Usedom is the name of an old Pomeranian noble family from the island of Usedom , who had lived on the island of Rügen since the 14th century .
history
In 1249 Milusko de Vznam and from 1249 to 1261 a knight Venzycus de Vznam were first mentioned in a document. According to Gustav Kratz, Venzycus von Uznam ( Usedom ) is probably the progenitor of the family who lived at Gut Zirmoisel on the island of Rügen from the 14th to the 20th century . The villages of Bubkevitz, Helle, Udars and Kartzitz belonged to the family estate.
In Kartzitz , which served as the headquarters for a long time, Ernst Joachim Moritz von Usedom (1746–1783) had a baroque manor house with a park built between 1760 and 1780 with Kartzitz Castle . In the middle of the 18th century, the Karnitz estate was acquired.
The diplomat Guido von Usedom was raised to the rank of count on December 19, 1862 . His only daughter and heir, Hildegard von Usedom , remained unmarried and mostly stayed at the court of King Ludwig II of Bavaria. She led such an elaborate lifestyle that she had to sell Gut Kartzitz in 1890, Karnitz a few years later. She died in 1924 in a Catholic monastery in Vienna.
coat of arms
The family coat of arms shows three (2: 1) upright red hooks (or ram horns) in silver. On the crowned helmet are three silver-red-silver ostrich feathers between two red hooks (ram horns) turned outwards. The helmet covers are red-silver.
