Friedrich Leopold Karl Bernhard Ludwig von Usedom (born April 14, 1756 in Venzvitz ; † November 15, 1824 at Gut Melochwitz near Militsch ) was a Prussian major general and the last chief of the hussar regiment named after him and canon of Kammin .

Life

origin

Friedrich was the son of the Swedish major Hans Heinrich von Usedom (1724–1771) and his wife Theodora, née von Taube. The Lieutenant General Adolph Detlef von Usedom was his uncle.

Military career

Usedom was a Junker in the Swedish service from 1767 to 1768 and then came as such into the Hussar Regiment "von Lossow" of the Prussian Army . He fought in the War of the Bavarian Succession , in which he was promoted to staff officer. In 1785 he was promoted to Rittmeister and appointed squadron chief in the hussar regiment "Prinz Eugen von Württemberg" . At a parade on October 15, 1786, he received the order Pour le Mérite . Usedom took part in the Polish War and was promoted to lieutenant colonel on August 29, 1794 .

On January 27, 1795 he became the commander of this regiment. On May 21, 1798 he was promoted to colonel . On December 3, 1804 he was appointed chief of the hussar regiment "von Glaser" and on May 20, 1805 promoted to major general. In 1806, during the Fourth Coalition War , he commanded a cavalry corps in the Duke of Württemberg's reserve corps . It consisted of his hussar regiment and the "von Hertzberg" dragoon regiment . After the defeat of the corps near Halle , Usedom withdrew with the remains to Mecklenburg . He was separated from the Blücher corps , which wanted to be reorganized near Lübeck . On November 5, 1806, his regiment, still counting 367 horses, was seized by General Savary's troops near Rohlsdorf near Wismar and had to surrender .

Usedom left the military, received a pension of 800 thalers and retired to his estate in Melochwitz near Militsch. His repeated request to the Prussian king at the beginning of the wars of liberation for reuse, the latter refused, pointing out that Usedom was in poor health. He died on his estate in 1824.

Individual evidence

  1. Year of birth 1756 according to information from Priesdorff, Zedlitz-Neukirch mentions the year 1757. GND 138806829 wrongly stated the year of birth until July 2015 as the year of entry into the army (1770).
  2. ^ Date of death November 15th according to ADB, Zedlitz-Neukirch names November 5th.
  3. Referred to as Gut Meloschwitz in the ADB.
  4. The ADB mentions May 21, 1798, but that is wrong; the other date comes from [1]
