Stone setting and barrows

description

Stone circle at Węsiory
Barrows near Węsiory

A little south of the village in a forest there are several stone circles , some with one to three central stones, as well as artificial hills, some of them with an erect small megalith on the summit. The stones used have a head up to max. Small child size, so the facility is nowhere near as impressive as the large megalithic circles in Great Britain or France. The circles and hills partially overlap and extend for a total of several hundred meters.

The stone circles have a diameter between 5 and 10 meters, they are partly incomplete. The hills have a diameter of around 3 m and a height of around 1 m, some are surrounded by a circle of head-sized stones, one is completely covered with stones. What is striking is a circle completely laid out with stones, which on closer inspection is composed of two concentric circles.

Similar stone circles and hills can also be found in other areas of Pomerania and Pomerania, the best known near Odry ( Odri ), others near Leśno , Łupawa and Siemirowic .

Dating and assignment

The stone circles and hills are mostly attributed to the Goths, who populated the area from the 1st to the 3rd century AD. However, there are sources that the circles and hills earlier, to a time between 4000 and 1800 BC. Want to know dated. The mounds have been identified as graves; the stone circles may have been used for meetings or rituals. Some sources, including the information sheets available on site, attribute special energies to the place and report nightly light phenomena.
