WPBSA Pro Ticket Series
The WPBSA Pro Ticket Series was a qualifying tournament for the Snooker Main Tour held between 1985 and 1989 . It consisted of two to four tournaments annually, with the respective winners receiving a place on the Main Tour season that began two years later.
history
The WPBSA Pro Ticket Series was held for the first time in 1985. The first tournament with 127 participants was held in May, the winner was David Roe , who beat Jon Wright 5: 4 in the final . In the second event, Wright beat Roe 5-1. In the same year the next series of editions started, this time with four tournaments. The number of participants fluctuated between 32 and 36 players. The first tournament was won by Anthony Harris 5-1 against Tony Putnam in an all-English final , and only one non-English competitor was in the final throughout the year. This was the winner of the second tournament, Terry Parsons , who defeated Robert Marshall 5-2 in the final . The final of the third tournament also ended with 5: 2, this time Martin Clark won over Paul Cavney . The fourth tournament ended even more clearly, with Gary Wilkinson defeating Jim Chambers 5-1 in the final .
For the 1988/89 season four tournaments were also held, this time with 32-64 participants. Among the 35 participants in the first tournament, Tony Wilson prevailed in the final with 5: 4 against Craig Edwards . The second event was won by Englishman Nick Terry , who defeated Darren Morgan 5-3 in the final . The third event of the year was won by Steve Ventham , who defeated Steve Campbell in an all-English final . Tournament No. 4 was also won by Nick Terry with a 5-4 victory over Mark Johnston-Allen
In the following year the number of participants was reduced to 32 and three tournaments were held. In the first tournament, Irishman Stephen Murphy won 5-3 against James Wattana from Thailand . It should remain the first of two final games without English participation, the second followed directly in the next event, when Wattana defeated the Scots Duncan Campbell 5-1. The third event was won by Jason Ferguson 5-2 against Jonathan Birch in an all-English final .
In 1989 three tournaments were held again, two of them with 32 participants, the last with 64 participants. In the first tournament, Jeff Cundy won 5-3 over Northern Irishman Jason Prince , in the second, Ken Doherty beat Alan Trigg with the same result . In the third event, Jonathan Birch, who had already been in the final a year earlier, won the Decider over Drew Henry .
It was to be the last edition of the tournament. Since the Main Tour was opened to all players at the beginning of the 1991/92 season, the qualifying tournaments became superfluous, so the tournament was abolished.
